The Golden Age of Exchange
In the seventeenth century, Chinese blue-and-white porcelain arrived at the ports of Amsterdam. Its translucent sheen and delicate patterns were unlike anything Europeans had ever seen. Almost overnight, porcelain became a symbol of taste and prestige, gracing the dining tables of Dutch merchants and the cabinets of British aristocrats. When tea culture flourished in London, it was porcelain cups that defined the ritual. Made in China then was never a synonym for cheap, it was a mark of artistry, heritage, and desire.
Alongside porcelain, silk traveled across continents, coveted for its softness and luminosity. From Chang’an to Venice, it carried stories of wealth and aspiration. Today, many of the ancient workshops where silk is still woven by hand are under threat from industrial production. These are not just fabrics; they are testimonies of patience, human ingenuity, and the fragile bond between maker and material. At Orient Ware Co., we see it as our responsibility to preserve and share these voices of craft.
Our Mission
Guided by the framework of “Eastern Objects × Modern Living,” Orient Ware Co. reconnects history with the present. We do not simply create objects; we create bridges between worlds. A cup, a textile, a vessel, a furniture, each is a continuation of human touch, designed to be lived with today while carrying the echoes of centuries. To us, every piece is both utility and legacy.
